Superintendent's Message

June 13, 2024

Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff,

Today we celebrated the Class of 2028 as they finished middle school and will soon be freshmen in high school! Also this week, Pre-K students and 5th graders were honored as they transitioned to Kindergarten and middle school. And tomorrow we celebrate the Class of 2024’s graduation! Though they will no longer attend our schools, they will always be members of the SBSD community.

Congratulations to all students taking their next big steps and all SBSD students for completing another year. We can’t wait to see you all back in the fall! Thank you to all staff and families for helping students to get here.

As we finish another year, I have been reflecting on everything we have achieved together this year and the team efforts they all took. We are excited to end our first year with a new supplemental math program, Happy Numbers. The students who engaged in the platform showed great growth.

K went from 73 to 95%

1 went from 42 to 95%

2 went from 44 to 84%

3 went from 32 to 88%

4 went from 26 to 72%

5 went from 32% to 73%

Those are huge improvements! I am so proud of all our students and teachers for working so hard this year.

Other major milestones include the opening of the ZEMs at RMCS and Orchard, the opening of our alternative program, SouthPoint, establishing school zones, launching a new website and app, piloting and selecting literacy and math programs for the elementary schools, and creating a Social Emotional Learning curriculum come to my mind instantly. Of course, there are so many other wonderful things happening each day. None of these would be possible without our students, staff, families, and the community and I am grateful for our community.

This will be my last newsletter for the school year, but I will send updates as needed throughout the summer. Please check the Summer Resources page, available here, for information about Summer Meals, registration, and more.

Transportation Update

Please take a moment to fill out this transportation survey administered by the Chittenden County Regional Transportation Commission (CCRPC) in support of South Burlington's first Active Transportation Plan (ATP), which is in development. This is a great opportunity to express any concerns or wants related to walking, biking, and rolling in South Burlington.

2024-2025 Returning Student Registration

To maintain the most up-to-date information about our students, the South Burlington School District asks families to verify the enrollment of all returning students annually. Along with contact details, medical needs, and approval for the use of technology, the Returning Student Registration form also provides our Transportation Department with the data they need to create bus routes and schedules.

Please complete the form as soon as possible.

To begin registering your student, please click here: Returning Student Registration.

You will find translatable instructions and access to other helpful resources on the Returning Student Registration website.

To translate the website, click Translate in the upper right corner and choose your preferred language.

For help translating the Returning Student Registration form or for help accessing a device to complete your student’s registration, please contact the school directly: Contact Us.
